🇧🇩 Family Card: A Groundbreaking Social Security Initiative

One of the most significant social security programs introduced by the government led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is the “Family Card.”

This special initiative has been designed to reduce the financial hardship of unemployed, poor, and lower-middle-class families across the country.

In an inter-ministerial meeting held on February 19, 2026, it was decided that direct cash assistance would be provided through this card. The financial support under this program will be at least double the amount of existing social allowances.

🔹 What is a Family Card?

The Family Card is a special database-based identity card through which eligible families will receive regular government financial grants.

According to Social Welfare Minister ZM Zahid Hossain, the money will be directly transferred to the female head of the household, ensuring women’s financial empowerment.

The government has set a target to bring more than 50% of eligible families under this project within the next 3 to 6 months.

Key Benefits of the Family Card

The financial assistance provided through this card will be at least double compared to existing allowances such as Old Age Allowance, Widow Allowance, and other social benefits.

To avoid delays, the program is being launched as a pilot project in selected areas before the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr.
