A birth certificate is one of the most important legal documents in our lives. However, mistakes such as a wrong name, incorrect date of birth, or an error in address sometimes occur during data entry. In the past, fixing these errors required visiting Union Parishads or City Corporation offices multiple times.
But now there’s no need to worry! The Government of Bangladesh has introduced an online birth registration correction service, allowing you to correct any mistake easily from home in just a few steps.
Step 1: Visit the Official Website
Go to 👉 https://bdris.gov.bd/br/correction
You will see a page titled “Application for Correction of Birth Information.”

Step 2: Enter Birth Registration Number and Date of Birth
Fill in the following two fields carefully:
Birth Registration Number
Date of Birth
Then, type the captcha code correctly and click “Search.”

Step 3: Verify Birth Registration
After searching, you will see your record with details such as name, father’s name, mother’s name, and date of birth. Click the “Select” button on the right side to proceed.
Step 4: Confirm Selection
A confirmation popup will appear asking if you are sure you want to apply for correction. Click “Yes” to continue.

Step 5: Choose What You Want to Correct
You can correct one or more of the following items:
Your name
Father’s name
Mother’s name
Date of birth
Address
Other incorrect information
Select the relevant field(s) and enter the correct information carefully.

Step 6: Upload Supporting Documents
You must upload valid documents to prove the mistake. Examples include:
National ID (NID)
Educational certificate (School or SSC certificate)
Parents’ NID or birth certificate
Hospital birth certificate (if applicable)
Note: For date-of-birth changes, the most important proof is a school certificate or hospital birth record.
Step 7: Write the Reason for Correction
Briefly explain why you need the correction. Example:
“My name was incorrectly entered as ‘Md. Arif’ in the birth certificate. The correct name is ‘Md. Arif Hossain.’ Therefore, I am applying for correction.”
Step 8: Submit the Application
Review all information carefully, then click “Submit.”
A tracking number will be sent to your mobile or email. You can later use this number to check your application status.

After submission, download the application form (PDF) and submit a printed copy with the tracking number to your nearest Union Parishad, Municipality, or City Corporation office for verification.
Usually, if all details are correct, the correction is completed within 24–48 hours or up to 7 days. You can then download your corrected certificate online or collect it directly from the local office.
🔎 How to Check Application Status
You can track your application anytime by visiting:
Enter your tracking number to see whether your request is Received, Under Process, Approved, or Rejected.
🏢 Where Corrections Are Approved
Birth certificate corrections are approved by the same local authority that issued the certificate:
Union Parishad
Municipality
City Corporation
They verify your online submission and approve the correction after review.
⚠️ Important Notes
If the birth year is before 01/01/2001, you cannot change the father’s or mother’s name online.
Provide accurate and truthful information; otherwise, your application may be rejected.
Once you submit incorrect data, you cannot modify it later.
📄 Downloading the Application Form (PDF)
After submitting the online correction request, the system automatically generates a PDF application form containing your name, registration number, date of birth, and requested corrections.
You can download it from the “Print Application Form” option on the portal. This form must be printed and submitted to the local office if manual verification is required.
💰 Correction Fees
A small government fee is required for corrections:
Name or address correction: 50–100 BDT
Date of birth correction: 100–200 BDT
Fees are usually paid at the Union Parishad or Municipality office. Keep the payment receipt safe as proof.
⏱️ Processing Time
In most cases, corrections are completed within 7–15 working days.
For complex changes (like date of birth or parents’ names), it may take up to 20 working days.
You can monitor progress online using your tracking number.
